Domestic Water System Sampling

Routine water testing services offered includes:

  • Legionella
  • TVC (22°C / 37°C)
  • Coliforms
  • Escherichia coli (E. coli)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

We are also able to carry out more specialised water sampling and analysis to your specification such as various chemical analyses (for example lead, manganese etc) and other bacterial analyses (for example Campylobacter, Enterococci etc). If you have a specific test you need doing please ask, we are likely able to assist you.

Where an urgent legionella test is needed we are able to offer sampling for rapid qPCR legionella testing with results available within 24 to 48 hours. The Legionella qPCR technique is able to arrive at a confirmed positive or negative result rapidly and quantify Legionella species and Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1, however results are given in genomic copies (GU)/L of sample, whereas the traditional culture technique gives results in colony forming units (cfu)/L. As current action and alert levels for L. pneumophila in L8 are given in colony forming units (cfu)/L, whenever a Legionella test is conducted by qPCR, this must be carried out alongside a test by traditional culture technique (10 days).

All water samples are submitted to independent UKAS accredited laboratories located throughout the UK. QES have a commitment to ensuring all samples collected are submitted to a UKAS accredited laboratory within 6 hours of sample collection.

Pool Water Sampling

Quality Environmental Services (QES) are able to offer regular (monthly, fortnightly or weekly) professional microbiological sampling, testing and reporting of swimming pool water. Routine pool suite analyses inclusive of:

  • Total Viable Count (TVC) at 37°C, otherwise known as aerobic colony count (ACC), colony count or plate count
  • Coliforms
  • Escherichia coli (E. coli)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Additional analyses available include (but are not limited to):

  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Giardia
  • Legionella

Notification of Results

Notification of laboratory analysis results is typically by e-mail, to the facility management and to the client management team. Where analysis results are close to, or exceed recommended limits then QES Ltd staff will offer guidance to remedy the situation and arrange for re-sampling of any affected pool water systems.  Any presumptive out of specification reports are sent out as an interim report, this is then followed up with the final confirmed result when available.
